The Arkansas United & NWA Hispanic Leadership Council Change Champions Gala was held on Friday, November 15th, 2019 at the Embassy Suites in Rogers.

Coca-Cola and Walmart sponsored the event that recognized Champions who support the movement of Immigrant representation in our community. Coca-Cola hosted a group of local Hispanic students who are mentees on the Latinx on the Rise mentorship program participants sponsored by the NWA Hispanic Leadership Council. These young students have all volunteered countless hours over the last couple of years to help many young Latinos like themselves figure out the college application process. They are all also brave and outspoken DREAMers who advocate for DACA recipients and other immigrants. Among them were Ariadna Valencia, who went to Little Rock to testify before the senate on behalf of the DACA Nursing bill, and Jose Rodriguez, who has met with Walmart's CEO Doug McMillon, at Mr. McMillon’s request, to discuss how Walmart can better support it’s associates with DACA.
Gisel Ruiz, former EVP of Operations at Sam's Club was one of the Change Champions award recipient and she shared her story as the daughter of immigrant parents and how her equality philosophy helped her succeed in the corporate world.
It was a magic night with tears and laughter. The attendees had the opportunity to enjoy mariachi music and the folkloric dancers from Mexico and the Marshall Islands.
